Design and Manufacturing
Design and Manufacturing research at the University of Galway focuses on advancing innovative, sustainable, and industry-relevant engineering solutions. This research area integrates cutting-edge technologies in design methodology, advanced manufacturing, materials science, and automation to address challenges across sectors including biomedical, aerospace, renewable energy, and marine engineering.
Research activities encompass areas such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), precision engineering, digital twins, design for sustainability, and smart manufacturing systems. Researchers work on developing novel materials, processes, and tools that improve product performance, reduce waste, and enhance production efficiency. The use of simulation-driven design, topology optimisation, and rapid prototyping is central to creating next-generation components and systems.
