Summer Internship Programme
Applications are invited for research bursaries intended for undergraduate students wishing to pursue a summer research project in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, starting June 03, 2024 and ending June 30, 2024 at the latest. Each bursary has a value of €1,280, and the corresponding working load is four days per week for four weeks.
These internship bursaries are available to undergraduate students of any nationality and university, provided they are residents in the EU. Preference will be given to students in the penultimate year of their undergraduate studies.
The interns will be encouraged to participate in the Stokes Modelling Workshop (27-30 May, 2024) and to meet regularly to present their progress during the internship period. They must prepare a presentation on their work to the school at the end of the four weeks and submit a report at the end of the summer.
Application Procedure
To apply for a bursary, students should find a supervisor within the school who is willing to supervise them for a 4-week summer project. The project should start on June 03, 2024.
Students should email a single pdf file to michel.destrade@universityofgalway.ie with:
-
The name of the proposed project supervisor.
-
A short description of the research project (200 words maximum).
-
A table containing percentage grades for all university modules completed to date. Provisional results for Semester 1 of the current academic year should be included.
Students should also ensure that the proposed supervisor sends a short letter of recommendation to michel.destrade@universityofgalway.ie. There is no official application form.
Application Deadline
Friday April 19, 2024 at 5 pm.
Evaluation
Applications will be evaluated and ranked by the School's Research Committee.
Other internships
Dr Wanis Nafo (www.wanisnafo.com) has separate funding for two summer internships.
These are intended for undergraduate (including 4th-year) and Masters students wishing to pursue a four-week project during Summer 2024 (exact dates flexible). Each bursary has a value of €1,600, and the corresponding working load is five days per week for four weeks. The interns will assist Dr Nafo in writing two literature review papers: one on "Recent Developments in Cavitation Rheology: Mathematical and Computational Modelling" and another on "Exploring Contrast Agent Integration in Polymer Nanoparticles". Training and pointers on how to compose a review paper will be provided.
Students should apply to wanis.nafo@universityofgalway.ie directly with CV/grades and a 1-page cover letter explaining their motivation. Applications will be accepted until May 03, 2024 (or later if positions are unfilled).
