Biography

I am now in the second year of my IRC- Postdoctoral research fellowship in Martin Ryan Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway. I joined the PhD program at the University of Messina, Italy under a Non-European doctoral research fellowship (2013-2015) from University of Messina, Italy with Prof. Giacobbe. My research interests are quite broad but are mostly related to marine biodiversity and ecology. I am particularly interested in marine ascidian systematics and invasion ecology, specialising in molecular taxonomy and evolutionary approaches. My interests also lie in finding novel marine drugs from tunicates and chemical ecology. I have published 41 research articles and a book “Tuna fishery, Biology and Management” on topics ranging from marine biology and oceanography and Natural Products Chemistry. I have also served as an editorial board member for two journals (J Fisheries and Aquatic Science and J Biodiversity & Environmental Sciences) and an invited referee for several journals including Marine Pollution Bulletin, J Marine Biology, Marine Drugs, Toxins. Recently, I was awarded the prestigious IRC- Postdoctoral Fellowship - 2016, and recipient of Visiting Researcher Fellowship from University of Messina and Eskitis Institute of Drug Discovery, Brisbane, Australia in 2014 and EuroMarine Young Scientist Travel Award -2017.

Research Interests

My ambition is to lead a research group that will use Novel analytical techniques NMR and mass spectrometry and other synergistic techniques to study Marine organisms’ chemical ecology, metabolomics and Natural Products Chemistry. Research targets will be those of outstanding biological interest, particularly those which add to the understanding Invasive ecology, marine ascidians chemical diversity and pharmaceutical applications. Presently seeking a tenure- track faculty position in Marine Science department of a leaning university or a research position at top research laboratory.
