Professor Michael Tuite

Biography

B.Sc. (Mathematical Science) 1978 University College Dublin; M.Sc. (Mathematical Science) 1979 University College Dublin and Ph.D. (Theoretical Physics) 1984 University of Cambridge. I spent four years at Trinity College Dublin as a post-doctoral fellow, one year at Dublin City University as a contract lecturer and two years as a research scholar at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. I joined  NUI Galway in 1990 as a college lecturer, became a senior lecturer in 1999 and personal professor in 2013.

Research Interests

I have research interests in theoretical physics (quantum field theory and conformal field theory) and pure mathematics (vertex operator algebras, the Monster group, modular groups and Riemann surfaces). Most recently I have been working on genus two and higher conformal field theory and vertex operator algebras in collaboration with Geoff Mason of UC Santa Cruz, Tom Gilroy and Mike Welby at NUI Galway. I am also interested in exceptional vertex operator algebras, superconformal algebras, Mathieu Moonshine, Jacobi forms, Lie algebras and combinatorics.
