2022 - 2023
- The Chapter organised the 9th Annual Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference on 9 December 2022.
- Event to screen the documentary “Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani” and a poster about her for the International Day of Women in Mathematics on 12th May 2023.
- Our chapter AGM took place on the 27th April 2023, and a new committee was elected.
2021 - 2022
- Representative of the chapter attended the 2022 SIAM Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, US). (11-15th July 2022)
- Member of committed helped in the organisation of the Stokes Modelling Workshop for Undergraduates 2022 at University of Galway. (May 2022)
- Our chapter AGM took place on the 29th April 2022, and a new committee was elected. (29th April 2022)
- Two Hybrid talks for the International Day of Mathematics 14th March 2022. Speakers: Niamh Cahill, from Maynooth University, and Faiza Alssaedi, from University of Galway. (14th March 2022)
- Participation from members in committee in the 8th annual Irish SIAM Student Chapter in University of Limerick; and in the Annual Meeting of SIAM UKIE 2022 (online, in Dublin). (January 2022)
- Organisation of Math Quiz with Math Soc at University of Galway. (25th November 2021)
- Help in the organisation of the Stokes Modelling Workshop for Undergraduates 2021 at University of Galway. (21-24th June 2021)
- Our chapter AGM took place on the 25th May 2021, and a new committee was elected. (25th May 2021)
2019 - 2020
- Our chapter AGM took place on the 12th June 2020, and a new committee was elected.
- The Sixth Annual Stokes Modelling Workshop for Undergraduate Students organised by the Stokes Cluster for Applied Mathematics and the Chapter, was held online for the first time from 2-5th June 2020.
- The Chapter Organised this year's Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference , 6 December 2019.
- For the 2019 Galway Science and Technology Festival the chapter ran several workshops Build it and Cut it: Fun with Shapes both in primary schools as well as at the Exihibition Day on the 24th November 2019
2018 - 2019
- Our chapter AGM took place on the 13th June 2019, and a new committee was elected.
- Six chapter members attended the SIAM UKIE Section Student Chapter Conference at the University of Manchester on the 10th and 11th of June 2019. They contributed 5 talks and 2 posters.
- The Fifth Annual Stokes Modelling Workshop for Undergraduate Students organised by the Stokes Cluster for Applied Mathematics and the Chapter, was held from 27-30 May 2019.
- 5 chapter members attended, and gave contributed talks at, the fifth Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference, organised by our colleagues at the University of Limerick on the 19th January 2019.
- We held a Careers in Mathematical Sciences Evening for Undergraduate Students on the 15th November 2018. Mathematics graduates gave short talks on their experiences of finding employment, establishing careers, and developing networks. Companies represented included Medtronic, Dairymaster, BrainWaveBank, and Valeo. Additionally Carol Keenan from the Career Development Centre gave information on where previous graduates are working/studying and outline the careers services and supports available to students. (Co-organised with the Mathematics Society at NUI Galway)
2017 - 2018
- Chapter president Eoghan Staunton represented the chapter at the SIAM Annual Meeting (AN18) in Portland, Oregon this July and presented his work on noise in the square root map in a contributed talk at the conference.
- Our Chapter AGM took place on Friday 22nd of June, we reflected on a successful year and a new committee was elected to lead the chapter in 2018/19.
- 8 chapter members attended the SIAM UKIE National Student Chapter Conference in the University of Bath on the 18th and 19th of June 2018. NUI Galway Chapter members contributed 7 talks and one poster.
- The chapter organised a conference preparation day on Friday the 8th of June giving members a chance to practice talks for upcoming conferences and to receive feedback in a friendly environment. The day also gave the speakers a chance to share their research with a wide audience from NUIG.
- We held a seminar on soft materials: experiments, theory and applications by Dr Taisiya Sigaeva (University of Calgary) in conjunction with the NUI Postgraduate Modelling Research Group on the 3rd of March 2018.
- The Chapter hosted the 4th Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference on the 1st December 2017.
- We held a seminar on the dynamics of decision making by Nadim Atiya (Ulster University) in conjunction with the NUI Postgraduate Modelling Research Group on the 24th of November 2017.
- We held 2 seminars on cryptography by Aisling Connolly and Pooya Farshim (ENS Paris) in conjunction with the NUI Galway School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics on the 23rd and 24th of November 2017.
2016 - 2017
- Qays Shakir represented our chapter at the Meeting of European SIAM Chapters 2017 in Prague.
- Chapter President Paul Greaney represented our chapter at the 2017 SIAM Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.
- The 2017 Stokes Modelling Workshop was held at NUI Galway, 6-9 June.
- Our Chapter AGM on Thursday 8 June at 1:30pm in ADB-G021.
- The SIAM UKIE National Student Chapter Conference, which we hosted on 26 May 2017
- Seminar: Dr Sarah Mitchell, Thursday 30 March (joint with School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics).
