The Bioinformatics group will hold the Genomics Industry Day on Wednesday, 1 June. This is an event to provide CRT students with an opportunity to network with future potential employers and for everyone with an interest in genomics to discuss policy issues affecting the development of genomics in Ireland. Professor John Newell and Dr Davood Roshsangachin ran a workshop on 20th May for primary school children with school projects selected as finalists for the HRB START competition. The program aims at increasing awareness of Clinical Trials where the task was to create their own fun randomised clinical trial in the classroom. Here are some related tweets:

Victoria Sánchez Muñoz, a PhD student from the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences, developed a workshop to introduce primary school children to some concepts of quantum physics using a game, “Quantum Tic-Tac-Toe”! Victoria delivered the workshop in person to classes in St. Patricks National School, Claddagh National School and Galway Educate Together during the month of April. The workshops are one hour in duration and their main purpose is to introduce the pupils to the quantum world in a fun way by using a game. The game is played on a computer and is a version of the usual tic-tac-toe (Xs and Os) but with additional rules that serve to illustrate two concepts used in quantum physics.

The School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences hosted Transition Year pupils from Glenamaddy Community School on Friday 1st April 2022. The 24 pupils and 2 teachers were welcomed by Dr. Giuseppe Zurlo and were taken to Áras de Brún for talks from Dr. Rachel Quinlan, Dr. Valentina Balbi, Dr. Faia Alssaedi and Professor Michael Tuite.

During Maths Week 2021, the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences hosted online workshops led by Mathematics Educator, Douglas Buchannan. Twenty three primary schools participated in six workshops on the 18th and 19th October 2021. They were hosted by Martin Kerin, Koushik Paul, Rachel Quinlan and Giuseppe Zurlo PhD student, Koushik Paul, was chosen to appear on the Maths at Work section of the MathsWeek website .
