School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences
Undergraduates
We offer the following degree programmes: B.Sc. in Mathematical Science (GY319), B.Sc in Financial Mathematics & Economics (GY309), B.A. in Mathematics & Education (GY109), B.Sc. degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science and/or Computer Science via the Science programme (GY301), and a B.A. degree in mathematics with another (humanities or social sciences) subject via Arts (GY101).
Teaching and Learning
The school has a longstanding commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching. Individual school members have been awarded four President's teaching awards and have been nominated for many more. The school offers modules and programmes in many diverse areas of mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and bioinformatics. Many of our graduates have provided testimonials to our teaching and courses and they enjoy an excellent record of success in employment.
Postgraduates
Prospective students can choose from taught postgraduate programmes such as the MA or MSc in Mathematics, or HDip in Applied Mathematics or in Mathematics. They can also embark on a postgraduate degree by research, such as MSc or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or Statistics.
International Students
The school attracts students from all over the world. There are Brazilian students visiting for a year under the "Science Without Borders" programme, students coming under one of our exchange programmes with universities such as Hong Kong University of Science an Technology, University of California and John Carroll University, as well as many other .
Our MSc and PhD programmes also boast a very high proportion of international students.
Research
The School maintains a strong research profile through publications, recruitment and training of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers, a weekly seminar series and conference hosting. It has productive links with centres all over the world, supported by funding from Irish and international sources.

Community Engagement
The School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences is keen to share its enthusiasm for all things mathematical with the wider community. In particular, all pupils from the West of Ireland are welcome to participate in our TY Friday or Mathematics Enrichment programmes, or in our MathsWeek activities. We also regularly propose interactive workshops and talks to schools and large events such as NUI Galway's Open Days or the Science & Technology Festival.
